:::CSUN:::MASTERS:::

WARNING: this excert is mostly rambling. read at your own risk.

Have you ever had a big decision to make??? For the past few weeks, I’ve wrestling on a decision about schools. Which is best for me, CSUN or MASTERS? It’s been driving me nuts, where does god want me!

As far as checks and balances go, I can decide to go to either college and life will go on. God can and will inebetably use me where ever I’m needed no matter what background proficiencies I have.

Here are the ups and downs: the pro's as far as masters goes, I’ll be able to get a bible bachelors in both biblical counseling and bible languages. Definitely something that God can use me in. Unfortunately, there's a con too (a mighty big one at that). My mother is currently aging and working too much for her age, I suspect that she's doing at least 50 hours a week. If I go to csun, then I’ll be able to get a double major in whatever I chose and also, I can take advantage of the added bonus of extra time and run over to pierce to get an associates degree in cars (which I love to work on). The extra added bonus is that I’ll have EXTRA MONEY left over to help my mother out with. i guess this brings me back to basic biblical principles of money. what would be the best use of money on my part. helping my mother or helping myself.

So this is pretty much a "wants" and "needs" decision. I love masters and what it offers: Christian’s morning day and night and biblical teachings all encompassed in a nice little circle. I’ve never been much for total Christian communities or bubbles but there is something about this community I want to be a part of (for whatever reason not even I can understand). Do I need it??? Of course not. Will csun suffice??? Definitely of course.

... and that's where I stand... at the edge of wants and needs.

God where do you want me???

1chron11:16-19

At that time David was in the stronghold, and the Philistine garrison was at Bethlehem. David longed for water and said, "Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!" So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out before the LORD. "God forbid that I should do this!" he said. "Should I drink the blood of these men who went at the risk of their lives?" Because they risked their lives to bring it back, David would not drink it.

  • tough choice, most definately. but i think God has already told you where to go just by reading your rambling...first and foremost is making decisions that leads you to where God has called you to serve him in for life. has he called you to do biblical counseling in depth or biblical counseling in general? planning to be a pastor or a minister to his people? for a pastor, for sure, go to masters...ministering?, the Holy Spirit will guide you.
    i guess what i'm saying is, do you know if God has called you to serve him in secular jobs or not. if not secular then go for masters.
    because you know, Paul was an educated workmanship of God, who studied the word of God all his life. Peter wasn't, he was a fisherman. But they both did mighty things for our God only because God was working through them 100%.

    If the real issue is wants and needs, of course Gods choice would be needs. but is it God's needs or your needs...hmm...mind boggling!!

    (sigh) who am i to say right? I will pray that God will show you soon. isn't that what we agreed upon, ask God first before you take anothers opinion.

  • i don't know what God's will for your life is regarding your career. But if you're thinking about going to seminary, from my own personal experience being at Westminster Seminary, I would highly recommend you going to Master's and studying one or two of the original languages. Greek and Hebrew is, in my opinion, one of the most hardest classes that seminarians deal with. So, if you know you're going to seminary, you should go to Master's. That's my opinion. Obviously, it's up all to what you want to do with your career, and I know that's a hard thing to decide on.

  • I think you mentioned this the other day to me, but I was a bad friend and wasn't really paying attention (sorry). There's a third option for consideration (like you need any more). You could go to CSUN and instead of running over to Pierce, you can run over to Eternity Bible College and take some Bible language classes and some regular Bible classes. From what I remember hearing (and it's been a while), Eternity is a lot cheaper than Master's. But, it's not accredited yet. However, if you're majoring at CSUN, it won't matter if it's accredited because you would be taking classes just for your own personal knowledge and preparation for... whatever it is that God leads you to doing. Just a thought. But, if I do say so myself, it's a pretty good one. Still, it's up to you and God what you end up doing.

  • u guys all have great ideas. it's defintely all about where i would be most useful for the Lord.

    i was actually thinking about that jen, going to csun, but i'd spend a ton of time at pierce for my auto degree but would still (with what little free time i had) go to EBC.
